Overview

The Director, Operational Risk, Safety, Health & Liability Management is responsible for providing enterprise risk management services to member school boards in Manitoba.

Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) are the methods and processes used by organizations to manage risks and seize opportunities related to the achievement of their objectives.

ERM provides a framework for risk management, which typically involves identifying particular events or circumstances relevant to the organization's objectives (threats and opportunities), assessing them in terms of likelihood and magnitude of impact, determining a response strategy, and monitoring process.

By identifying and proactively addressing risks and opportunities, school boards protect and create value for their stakeholders, including owners, employees, customers, regulators, and society overall.

Scope

The risk management unit works closely with schools to ensure student and staff well-being through safety education, guidance and awareness programming and issues advisement on loss mitigation related to fire, flood, theft, or other hazards.

Materials posted here provide guidance and direction in major risk management areas. They are not intended to replace school board policies and procedures, but to supplement them by outlining the risk management considerations which should go into making the decisions on day-to-day school activities.
