Outstanding Teachers Awarded for Positive Impact on Students

[April 19, 2024] Six educators have received Manitoba’s Excellence in Education Awards to recognize their significant positive impact on the learning and development of Manitoba students, Education and Early Childhood Learning Minister Nello Altomare announced today. 

“Teachers that show incredible dedication and make a real impact in students’ lives should be acknowledged,” said Altomare. “The award recipients have shown incredible commitment to their students by supporting their academic success and creating classroom and school environments where students feel safe, valued, and inspired.” 

The awardees of this annual event were chosen by a selection committee of representatives from the Manitoba School Boards Association, the Manitoba Federation of Independent Schools and the Department of Education and Early Childhood Learning. 

This year’s recipients of Manitoba’s Excellence in Education Awards 2023-2024 are:

  • Premier’s Award for Excellence in Education – Rebecca Okemow, Strathclair Community School, Park West School Division;
  • Outstanding New Teacher Award – Rachel Robinson, Victor Mager School, Louis Riel School Division;
  • Outstanding School Leader Award – Karen Duffield, Shamrock School, Louis Riel School Division;
  • Teaching Excellence Award: 
    – Saul Correia, Collège Churchill High School, Winnipeg School Division;
    – Miroslawa Demko, Ralph Brown School, Winnipeg School Division; and
    – Tara Tuchscherer, St. James Collegiate, St. James Assiniboia School Division.

Since 2006, Manitoba has recognized exceptional educators who have a special connection to students and whose teaching style has a deep and lasting impact on student achievement, engagement and well-being, noted the minister.
