Trustee Education

School trustees are locally elected public officials entrusted with governing a community's public schools.  As education leaders in the community and as advocates for public education, effective school boards are committed to ongoing professional development. The leadership provided by both a board and individual trustees has a direct effect on the school division, its students and staff and, ultimately, the communities it serves.

As a result, trustees and local school boards have an exciting opportunity to impact the lives of citizens in their community: of children and youth directly, and of others indirectly. Most importantly, a board is responsible for ensuring local students receive the best kindergarten to grade 12 education possible.

MSBA offers free workshops, webinars, and videos to build knowledge of good governance practices, and to further develop skills as ethical leaders, community advocates, inclusive policy makers, and strategic thinkers. On-line, self-directed learning resources are also available in this section.

Sessions may be held on a divisional, regional or provincial basis, in-person or on-line. As well, the Association’s Fall General & Regional Meetings and Annual Convention both contain professional development components.
