Overview
Manitoba School Boards Association provides critical guidance, support and risk management services to all stakeholders in the K-12 school system.
Operational safety is an area of focus in enterprise risk management where potential liabilities and loss can potentially be turned into an asset with gains.
The Manitoba Safe Schools Portal is a collaborative workspace for participating school divisions and districts to establish compliant safety programs against the following standards:
- Manitoba Workplace Safety & Health Act & Regulations
- Safe Work Audit v 1.16
- COR Audit 2023
The development of standardized safety programs across all Manitoba school districts would provide the framework necessary to successfully pursue an industry based safety program (IBSP) for the K-12 school sector.
Establishing a K-12 school sector IBSP would help reduce WCB premium costs over time and costs now spent on servicing insurance premiums today could be earmarked into investments in operational excellence for schools, effectively turning liability into a positive asset.
