SAFETY IN THE SCHOOL WORKSHOP AND BOILER ROOM

• do all soldering in an area free of combustibles and volatile liquids. Keep an extinguisher ready for use.

• Store all flammable liquids in proper containers and cabinets.

• Remove the burner heads of propane torches after use, because this seals the canister and prevent leaks.

• Never use solvents in the boiler room because the pilot light or furnace flame could ignite the fumes and cause an explosion.

• Propane tanks and other containers of fuel must NEVER be stored in the he boiler room. Such containers should be kept out of the school building if at all possible.

• Oily rags cause many fires each year and they should be thrown out after use.

• Sawdust and shavings become very dry indoors and are easily ignited. Vacuum these areas regularly.

• Keep the workshop locked when not in use.

• When using power tools, watch for frayed cords and keep all guards in place. Never use in a wet area, and wear your safety goggles or mask.
