MOBILES CAN BE QUITE AN EYEFUL
Many Classrooms use mobiles to display art work and other items. This is a very attractive method of decorating a classroom. There is, however, a hazard involved here and this pertains to the use of a bent paperclip.
The mobiles often have a paperclip that has been bent to allow the mobile item to become attached to a supporting string or wire. The hook is usually above the height of the students, but many are at eye level of an adult.
Cleaning personnel and teachers could easily suffer serious eye damage by a bent paperclip scratching or entering their eye.
All teachers should take a close look at the use of mobiles. They will usually find that there is no need for a paperclip. Mobiles could be ties directly onto a string without the use of such sharp objects. It is also necessary to look at the item being hung, and the height of the item. All mobiles should be out of range of any adults who could enter the classroom.
