Leadership, Service and Advocacy

March 15 & 16, 2018 - Delta Winnipeg

convention 216

Lead. Serve. Advocate. In many ways, these three simple words capture the complex work of school boards. Effective boards are leaders who envision tomorrow, and work to ensure students have the skills and knowledge they’ll need to thrive in that future. They are public servants in the truest meaning of that phrase, committed to working for all students, their families, and the community. And they are advocates who understand that everyone has a stake in public education, and that part of their job is to remind people of that fact from time to time. Through a full program of plenary and concurrent sessions, delegates to the 2018 convention will have an opportunity to explore each of these themes, and the inter-connections between them.

Recognition of Achievement

Each year at its annual covention, the association honours exemplary programs, educators and students. Also recognized are individuals who have devoted many years to serving the interests of public education through the presentation of long-service trustee awards. Click on the link below (fillable form PDF) for an award/recognition application form.

  • Student Citizenship Awards (six individual and one group) recognize outstanding young people throughout Manitoba who are active participants in their communities and schools. (See note below)
  • The Premier Award for School Board Innovation recognizes educational innovations and improvements advanced or directed by boards of education to support and/or enhance student achievement.
  • The Presidents' Council Award celebrates exemplary service and outstanding achievement, innovative thinking and personal initiative, and lasting and pervasive impact in the field of public education.
  • Long-Service Trustee Recognition honours individuals with 12, 16 or 20 years of school board service.

Individual students cannot apply for the student citizenship awards. Only nominations endorsed by the local school board will be considered.
